THE AFRICAN UNION COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND
The African Union COVID-19 Response Fund was established by the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on 26 March 2020, with the aim of strengthening the continental response to COVID-19 and mitigate its socio economic and humanitarian impact on African populations.
The objectives of the Fund are to:
Support the procurement and distribution of essential COVID-19 medical equipment and supplies and mobilize rapid response by Member States.
Mitigate the social, economic and humanitarian impact of COVID-19 in all African countries.
Further boost the capacity of Africa CDC to support response to public health emergencies across the continent.
How much is required?
Africa CDC estimates that implementation of the strategy requires US$647 million over the next six months.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANISATION AFRICA COVID RESPONSE FUND
The World Health Organisation’s Africa’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund funds African Governments and African health ministries to tackle the virus, directly on the ground, providing, PPE, training for Doctors, nurses and other health professionals.
The Covid Solidarity Fund also supports the work of partners, UNICEF, the World Food Programme (WFP), the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) in Africa, to tackle COVID 19
Small donations can have a big impact:
US$25 can buy 10 litre-sized bottles of disinfectant gel for use in hospitals
US$50 can buy 10 protective reusable aprons for health workers
US$100 can buy 75 boxes of surgical masks (50 masks/box) for health workers
US$500 can buy 168 protective hooded coveralls for healthcare workers
US$1000 can buy 246 pairs of gloves for medical exams
US$2500 can buy 100 digital thermometers
All donations given through InforAfrica will be tracked as originating from the campaign.
